When I left McKesson I considered myself “in the know, an expert” in the healthcare system. That was before I served as the primary care provider for my mother while she recovered from very invasive cancer surgery, before I supported my father-in-law after his quadruple by-pass surgery and yes, that was before I actively participated in my mother-in-law’s post stroke rehab. All three incidents occurred in a very compressed nine month period. I became the “Post-Acute Care Manager” without the experience required to assume the role.  I was confused, overwhelmed and found myself managing a new and overwhelming level of stress.

This personal experience has had a permanent and profound impact on me and the value that I place on post-acute care management. Often considered, unimportant or “less strategic” post-acute services – long-term care, home care, rehab, and hospice  – are critical components of the healthcare delivery system and serve as the cornerstone of care for senior Americans recovering from significant health incidents or frail and elderly people requiring ongoing, chronic management. The impact of these services extends far beyond the patient, the entire family is involved.

After supporting my family during this challenging period, I began writing a business plan and looking for a company that could impact the post-acute experience. During my search, I met the team at HealthMEDX and I had the opportunity to see their comprehensive post-acute technology platform. At HealthMEDX, I found an innovative team using a web based, SaaS platform to drive quality and efficiency to the post-acute environment.  Their efforts, often unrecognized, are making complex patient care safer, more efficient and more affordable for over 3,000 post-acute organizations across the county.

Going forward, I believe that the HealthMEDX Vision system provides a highly differentiated platform to facilitate organized, proactive post-acute care delivery. The system design inspires team based care and can provide health systems and post-acute providers with the tools required to align incentives and foster collaborative care.  Working with a world class management and two outstanding financial partners, I am confident that we will be able to expand and augment this platform to provide a comprehensive system that supports the post-acute requirements of seniors and other chronically ill Americans.  This company will make a difference in the way care is delivered.
